HubSpot Prospecting Agent: The Operator's Guide
August 4, 2026
The HubSpot Prospecting Agent is a Breeze AI agent that researches the contacts you enroll, watches for buying signals, and drafts personalized outreach for your reps to approve. It runs on every paid HubSpot tier and costs 100 HubSpot Credits, about one dollar, per lead it recommends. You pay when it recommends a lead, not for monitoring.
AVAILABLE ON
Every paid HubSpot tier: Starter, Professional, and Enterprise across the hubs, plus Smart CRM Professional and Enterprise. Free portals do not get it.
COST
100 credits (about $1) per recommended lead. Monitoring is free. Extra credits run $10 per 1,000, or $9 on annual billing. New activations get a 28 day free trial that pauses itself when it ends.
BEFORE YOU START
A paid tier, prospecting agent permissions, AI settings switched on, a connected inbox with SPF and DKIM sorted, and CRM data you actually trust.
What is the HubSpot Prospecting Agent?
It is HubSpot's AI sales development rep. Part of the Breeze agent family, now managed from HubSpot's Agent Hub, it lives in the Sales workspace and Breeze Studio, and its job is the top of your outbound motion: research a contact, figure out whether they are worth reaching out to right now, and draft the email a rep would have written if they had twenty minutes to prepare.
You define one or more selling profiles that describe what you sell and who buys it. The agent works from those profiles plus your CRM data. It can also pull net-new contacts through ZoomInfo, Apollo, Surfe, and Seamless integrations when your own database runs thin.
How does the Prospecting Agent work?
Setup is a guided flow, and the choices you make in it decide most of the output quality:
- Selling profile. Name, description, what you sell, who it is for. This is the agent's brain; a vague profile produces vague emails.
- Identity. Emails send from the contact owner, the company owner, or a single mailbox.
- Calls to action. Meeting links, documents, or URLs the emails should push toward.
- Outreach options. Email approval on or off, tone, sending frequency, time zone windows.
- Enrollment. Enroll contacts manually to stay in control, or through rulesets once you trust it.
From there it researches enrolled contacts, monitors buying signals, and queues drafts. With approval on, reps review and send. With approval off, it sends on its own inside the windows you set.
What does it cost to run?
Since April 14, 2026 the pricing is outcome based. You are charged 100 HubSpot Credits, roughly one dollar, when the agent recommends a lead for outreach. That charge covers the research, the drafting, and about thirty days of monitoring for that contact. Enrolling and watching signals costs nothing until a recommendation happens.
Every paid portal includes a monthly pool of credits, and this is where teams get surprised: the pool is shared across all Breeze and AI features, not reserved for prospecting. Data Hub's Data Studio syncs draw on this same pool.
Starter - about 500 included credits per month
Covers roughly 5 recommended leads, if nothing else uses credits.
Professional - about 3,000 included credits per month
Covers roughly 30 recommended leads.
Enterprise - about 5,000 included credits per month
Covers roughly 50 recommended leads.
Included pools vary by contract; check yours under billing and usage before you plan volume. Additional credits are $10 per 1,000, or $9 per 1,000 on annual billing. Running Marketing Hub Starter? Read the build we recommend before you point credits at prospecting.
What does it do for your business?
Used well, it is pipeline coverage without headcount. It keeps research and first-touch outreach moving on accounts your reps would never get to, and at a dollar per qualified recommendation the math is friendly: one booked meeting pays for hundreds of recommendations. Our take: for most sales teams on a paid tier with a clean CRM, the April pricing change turned this from an experiment into an easy yes.
Who it is NOT for, honestly:
- Teams with messy CRM data. The agent writes from your records; wrong titles and missing industries come out as nonsense emails.
- Brands that need a distinct voice. It supports HubSpot's default brand voice only, and editing its drafts does not train it.
- Anyone hoping for full autopilot on day one. The teams that regret it are the ones who turned approval off in week one.
How Hubjoy deploys the Prospecting Agent
This is the setup order we use in client portals, built around one principle: protect the credit pool until the output earns your trust.
- CRM hygiene first. Titles, industries, lifecycle stages, and owner assignment cleaned up before the agent touches anything. Output quality tracks data quality almost exactly.
- One selling profile per ICP. A single profile that tries to sell everything produces emails that sell nothing. Split by persona or product line.
- Approval mode on, and it stays on for weeks. Treat it like a junior SDR whose drafts get edited every morning. The edits are your quality bar, and the review time is real training for your instructions.
- Guardrails before volume. Exclusion lists for customers, partners, and open deals. Send windows in business hours. First cohort: stale leads you can afford to test on, never your best accounts.
- Credit protection. Manual enrollment until usage is predictable, agent permissions limited to the team that runs it, and a weekly look at the shared pool so another Breeze feature does not quietly drain it.
- A weekly tuning loop. Reply rates by profile, tighten the advanced instructions with structure and banned phrases, and tell it exactly which CRM fields to personalize from.
The gotcha we watch for: an enrollment ruleset that quietly sweeps in old contacts. The agent starts recommending, each recommendation bills 100 credits, and the pool is gone before anyone notices. Enrollment rules get reviewed before they get saved.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the HubSpot Prospecting Agent cost?
100 HubSpot Credits per lead it recommends for outreach, which is about one dollar at the standard rate of $10 per 1,000 credits ($9 on annual billing). You are not charged for enrolling or monitoring contacts. Paid tiers include a monthly credit pool: roughly 500 on Starter, 3,000 on Professional, and 5,000 on Enterprise, shared across all AI features.
Which HubSpot plans include the Prospecting Agent?
Every paid tier: Starter, Professional, and Enterprise across Marketing, Sales, Service, Content, and Data Hubs, plus Smart CRM Professional and Enterprise. Free portals do not have access.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. New activations get a 28 day free trial with no credit consumption, and the agent pauses itself when the trial ends so you are not billed by surprise. You re-enable it deliberately.
Can it write in our brand voice?
Only HubSpot's default brand voice for now. Your control surface is the selling profile and the advanced instructions, where you can set tone, structure, length, and phrases to avoid. Editing individual drafts improves that email but does not train the agent.
How many contacts can it handle?
It can research and compose emails for up to 1,000 contacts per account per day. Contacts with previous bounces cannot be enrolled, and credit-consuming actions do not run in sandbox accounts.
How do we keep it from burning through credits?
Keep approval mode on, enroll manually until usage is predictable, restrict agent permissions to the team that runs it, set exclusion lists so it never emails customers or open deals, and review the shared credit pool weekly. Most credit horror stories trace back to an over-broad enrollment ruleset.
