HubSpot Customer Service Agent (Breeze Customer Agent): The Operator's Guide

July 28, 2026

The HubSpot Customer Service Agent, officially the Breeze Customer Agent, is HubSpot's AI support rep. It answers customer questions on live chat, email, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp using your knowledge base and website content, and hands the hard ones to your team. It runs on Professional and Enterprise tiers and costs 50 HubSpot Credits, about fifty cents, per conversation it actually resolves.

AVAILABLE ON

Professional and Enterprise tiers of every hub: Marketing, Sales, Service, Content, Data, and Revenue, plus Smart CRM. Free and Starter portals do not get it.

COST

50 credits (about $0.50) per resolved conversation. Testing, help desk reply recommendations, and the first 14 days are free. Extra credits run $10 per 1,000.

BEFORE YOU START

A Pro or Enterprise tier, a live chat, Facebook, or WhatsApp channel connected to your inbox or help desk, AI settings switched on, customer agent editor permissions with an assigned seat, and content worth training it on.

What is the HubSpot Customer Service Agent?

First, the name. Most people search for HubSpot's customer service agent; HubSpot officially calls it the Breeze Customer Agent, and the knowledge base just says customer agent. Same product. It lives under Service in your portal and in Agent Hub, HubSpot's home for all its AI agents (formerly Breeze Agents, in public beta as of June 2026).

What it does: answers the repetitive tier-one questions your support team is tired of. It reads your knowledge base and website pages, replies to customers with source-backed answers in a conversational tone, performs actions like resetting a password or booking a meeting, and transfers the conversation to a human when its confidence drops or your escalation rules fire.

It is not the old rule-based chatflow bot. Those follow scripted branches; the customer agent actually composes answers from your content, cites its sources, and can now read screenshots and PDFs customers attach mid-conversation.

How does the Customer Agent work?

Setup runs through five stages in the redesigned navigation: Overview, Define, Train, Deploy, Analyze. The choices you make in Train and Deploy decide most of what happens next:

  1. Identity. Name, avatar, and a personality: Friendly, Professional, Casual, Empathetic, or Witty. If you have brand voice configured in HubSpot, the agent can use it. You can also pin the exact languages it responds in.
  2. Knowledge. Sync existing HubSpot content plus public URLs. The crawler can pull up to 5,000 pages from a domain with path filters for what to include or skip, and re-crawls weekly. This is the agent's brain; thin content produces thin answers.
  3. Actions and guidelines. What it may do (reset passwords, book meetings, qualify leads, look up invoices) and how it should behave. Handoff rules are written in plain language now, no keyword lists.
  4. Testing. A full test mode that never consumes credits: chat with the agent as an unknown visitor, a specific CRM contact, or a whole segment, see why it answered the way it did, and coach it before anything goes live.
  5. Deployment. Assign it to live chat, email, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp, drop it into workflow or chatbot branches, or keep it internal generating reply recommendations for your reps in help desk. On email you can scope which contacts it answers using HubSpot lists.

In chat, visitors see a Powered by AI label, get three suggested questions based on the page they are on, and the conversation auto-closes after 24 hours of silence. One permanent decision to know about: once you create a customer agent you can pause it any time, but you cannot delete it.

What does it cost to run?

Since April 14, 2026 the pricing is outcome based: 50 HubSpot Credits, about fifty cents, per resolved conversation. Before that it was $1.00 per conversation whether or not the agent helped. Its sales-side sibling, the Prospecting Agent, moved to the same outcome model on the same day.

A conversation counts as resolved when the agent replies with a content source or performs an action, and nobody hands it to a human within 72 hours of the last message. Marking a lead qualified, partially qualified, or not qualified also counts. Resolution is evaluated 72 hours after the last visitor response, so this week's numbers always lag a little.

Professional - ~3,000 included credits per month

Covers roughly 60 resolved conversations, if nothing else uses credits.

Enterprise - ~5,000 included credits per month

Covers roughly 100 resolved conversations.

Included pools vary by contract; check billing and usage before you plan volume. Additional credits are $10 per 1,000, and the pool is shared across every Breeze and AI feature in the portal. Starter portals have credits too, but no customer agent to spend them on.

Three billing behaviors worth knowing before you deploy. Multiple messages in one open conversation bill as one resolution, not many. An email thread that goes quiet for 72 hours and then gets a customer reply reopens, and a second distinct issue resolved there bills again. And if your credits run out, the agent quietly stops taking new conversations on every channel and routes them to your team until the pool resets or you buy more.

What does it do for your business?

HubSpot reports the customer agent resolves 65% of the conversations it handles and cuts resolution time by 39%, across the 8,000-plus customers who had activated it by April 2026. Treat those as vendor numbers, but our client-side experience points the same direction: fed a real knowledge base, it clears the password-reset and where-is-my-order layer of support reliably, around the clock, in whatever language the customer writes in.

The math is friendly too. Fifty cents per resolved conversation is cheaper than any human minute you would have spent on the same question, and unresolved conversations cost nothing. Our take: if you are already on a Professional tier and you have a knowledge base, this is the easiest AI yes in HubSpot right now. The evaluation path is free end to end: test mode costs nothing, reply recommendations cost nothing, and the first 14 days are free.

Who it is NOT for, honestly:

  • Free and Starter portals. It is tier-gated to Professional and Enterprise, and support volume alone rarely justifies that upgrade by itself.
  • Teams with no documented answers. No knowledge base and a thin website means the agent has nothing to learn from; write the content first.
  • Anyone expecting it to replace the support team. It is a triage layer for repetitive questions. The complex, angry, and high-stakes conversations still need people, and your handoff rules are what protect them.

How Hubjoy deploys the Customer Agent

This is the setup order we use in client portals, built around one principle: earn trust with free modes before a single credit is spent.

  1. Content audit first. The agent is exactly as good as your knowledge base and site pages. We fix or write the top 20 answers before it reads anything, and set path filters so the crawler skips the blog and legal pages.
  2. Reply recommendations before live deployment. Turned on inside help desk, the agent drafts answers your reps approve, edit, or dismiss. Zero credits, zero customer risk, and a week of this tells you precisely how good its answers really are.
  3. The 14-day free window as a deliberate pilot. One channel, usually website live chat, monitored daily. Not every channel at once.
  4. Handoff rules before volume. Plain-language escalation rules written and tested before launch: refunds, cancellations, anything legal, anyone frustrated. Nothing goes customer-facing without a clean path to a human.
  5. Credit protection before deploy, not after. We review the overage and auto-upgrade settings first, because capacity packs can upgrade your credit plan automatically when usage spikes, and practitioners report the allowance is hard to walk back down. The pool is shared with every other AI feature, so it gets a weekly look.
  6. A weekly tuning loop. Resolution analytics, the knowledge gap report, and content source performance. Gaps become new articles or short answers; wrong answers become guideline edits.

The gotcha we watch for: long-running email threads. A thread that reopens after 72 hours can bill a second resolution when a second issue gets solved, which is fair pricing but surprises people reading the invoice. Resolution analytics get reviewed weekly so nobody meets that surprise at renewal.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the HubSpot Customer Agent cost?

50 HubSpot Credits per resolved conversation, which works out to about fifty cents at the standard rate of $10 per 1,000 credits. Pricing changed on April 14, 2026 from $1.00 per conversation to $0.50 per resolution. Professional portals include roughly 3,000 credits a month (about 60 resolutions) and Enterprise about 5,000 (about 100), shared across all AI features.

Which HubSpot plans include the Customer Agent?

Professional and Enterprise tiers of any hub: Marketing, Sales, Service, Content, Data, and Revenue Hub, plus Smart CRM Professional and Enterprise. Free and Starter portals do not have access, which makes this one of the clearest reasons support-heavy teams upgrade.

What counts as a resolved conversation?

A conversation is resolved when the agent replies with a content source or performs an action, and no human handoff happens within 72 hours of the last message. Marking a lead as qualified, partially qualified, or not qualified also counts. Resolution is evaluated 72 hours after the last visitor response, so weekly reporting lags by design.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. First-time setups can opt in to 14 days of free access, and the agent does not consume credits during that window. Testing and previewing never use credits either, and neither do reply recommendations in help desk. That combination gives you a real evaluation path before you spend anything.

Which channels does it work on?

Live chat on your website, email, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp, connected through the conversations inbox or help desk. You can also drop it into workflows and rule-based chatbot branches, and use it to generate reply recommendations for your reps inside help desk without deploying it to customers at all.

Can it match our brand voice and languages?

Yes, better than most HubSpot AI tools. You pick a personality (Friendly, Professional, Casual, Empathetic, or Witty) or select Use my brand voice if you have brand voice configured. Since March 2026 you can also control exactly which languages it responds in, or leave auto-detection on. With the Brands add-on, each brand gets its own agent.

What happens when we run out of credits?

The agent stops being assigned to new conversations on every channel until your credits reset or you buy more, and new conversations route to your team through the handoff process you configured. One caution: if you have purchased credit capacity packs, usage above your allotment can auto-upgrade your credit plan, so review overage settings before you deploy.

Thinking about turning it on?

We will tell you whether your portal and your content are ready for it, and what to fix first if they are not. Thirty minutes, no pitch.
